How to get directions with Google Maps for iPhone and iPad

Launch Google Maps from your Home screen.

Tap the search bar at the top of the screen.

Type in an address or business name.

Tap Search.

Tap the directions button. It looks like a car.

Tap on the route you want to take.

Tap Start.

To save a map for offline reading:

Launch the Google Maps app.

Search for the place you’re going to or that you need to map.

Tap on the name of the place.

Tap on the three-dot icon to bring up the options.

Tap on Save Offline Map.

Download areas and navigate offline. If you’re going where the Internet is slow, mobile data is expensive, or you can’t get online, you can save an area from Google Maps to your phone or tablet and use it when you’re offline.

Save a route

GPS is satellite-based. I’ve found out that GPS does not need Internet, BUT of course if you need to download maps, you will need a data connection or wifi.
