You can make a voice or video call to anyone on Skype, anywhere in the world, for free. Simply find your family, friends and colleagues who are using Skype and add them to your contact list. When you’ve added them, it’s easy to make a call.

Skype is a simple service that allows users to chat, talk, or video chat over the Internet. Best of all, Skype-to-Skype calls are free, though there’s a small fee to call a landline or mobile number.

Select the add contact icon or click directly in the search text box and type the name, Skype name or email of the person you want to add. Click Search Skype. Select your friend from the search results and click Add to Contacts. Type a quick note to introduce yourself and then click Send.

Yes, with a Skype Number, people can call you from a landline or mobile, and you can pick up the call on Skype. If the person you want to talk to also has Skype, it’s free to use the service (minus the cost of your Internet connection, of course). There is a fee if you’re calling a regular landline or cell phone, and there’s also a cost associated with some of the more advanced services.

Calls to a toll free (also known as freephone/freecall) number are paid for by the receiver of the call, making them free for you, the caller. However, when dialing such a number from another country, you (the caller) will be charged international rates. So the call is no longer free when dialed from abroad.

Method 2 Calling on a Mobile Device

Check for a webcam. Be sure your mobile device has a front facing camera.

Install the Skype application. The Skype website will send you a download link to your mobile phone number.

Open up the app.

Click on a contact.

Start a video call.

End the call when ready.

To call a phone in another country, dial 011, and then the code for the country you are calling, the area or city code, and the phone number. For example, if you are trying to call someone in Brazil (country code 55), in the city of Rio de Janeiro (city code 21), you would dial 011 – 55 – 21 – XXXX-XXXX.

011 if calling from a US or Canadian landline or mobile phone; if dialing from a mobile phone, you can enter a + instead of the 011 (press and hold the 0 key)

00 if calling from a number in any European country; if dialing from a mobile phone, you can enter a + instead of the 00.
